The 1850 Census from Genessee Co, NY (above) lists Richard, Margaret, "Richard Jr." (born in Ireland to a different mother) - whom I call Richard lll since his grandfather was also Richard Massy, children: "Massy W." (William Massy), "Belinda" (Fanny), and "Alexander T.".  Birth places are specified as: Ireland, Ireland, Ireland, Canada-East, Canada-East, and New York respectively.  Richard's and Richard Jr.'s occupation is specified as "Veterinary Surgeon".  Alexander, 12 years old and born in New York indicates the Yeildings moved here in late 1837 or early 1838.  This was about the time of the Canadian Rebellion, December, 1837.  Many Canadians involved in the Rebellion fled Canada to Buffalo and the surrounding area to escape prosecution at the hands of the British.  It was also the time when the Holland Land Office (in Batavia, NY) was selling off its holdings and closing its offices.  Perhaps a good time settle in the area.

Here is a hand written copy of Richard's citizenship paper, dated 10 February 1844, where he declares his allegiance to the U.S.  The Yeilding's left New York in 1855, moving to Muscoda, Grant County, Wisconsin.  While most of the family moved to Wisconsin, Richards son, who I call Richard the 3rd, moved to the Detroit area with his wife Elizabeth.  Richard (lll) fought in the Civil War with the Michigan Militia and shows up on the 1880 Census in Michigan with his family as an "Inventor".  While most of his children were born in Michigan, one son, Charles, was born in Wisconsin, perhaps during a visit with his parents and half-siblings.
